ArcelorMittal Distribution offer for heavy plates

A wide range of plates – dictated by the care for the convenience of our customers seeking only the best and optimal solutions for their products. Our offer includes plates in construction, boiler, ship and offshore grades. All of them have properties that allow their widespread use in every segment and industries and wherever the highest quality required for steel products is required.

In particular, plates are applied in broadly understood load-bearing structures, such as masts, chimney stacks, power traction poles as well as in lifting equipment and machine parts. Our customers have a huge selection of metallurgical products available. Below, we present tables with precise information about our products, including their chemical analysis and mechanical properties.

ArcelorMittal Distribution offer for structural plates

Structural plates acc. to EN 10025-2

ArcelorrMittal Distribution’s assortment offers structural plates based on various grades of unalloyed and alloy steels as well as special purpose steels up to a maximum weight of 9.4 Mg. Due to their different mechanical properties and chemical analysis, finished products allow the selection of the best material for the purpose. We also manufacture construction plates, normalized to EN 10025-3, as well as thermomechanically rolled plates.

Upon the client's request, we deliver all the plates with additional tests:

  • weldability test acc. to SEP 1390
  • narrowing Z15/25/35 acc. to SEL 096
  • ultrasound testing acc. to SEL 072/77
  • other additional tests

Boiler plates for pressure vessels acc. to EN 10028-2

ArcelorMittal Distribution’s range of boiler plates is limited to products based on two steel grades – P265GH and 16M03, meeting the relevant requirements in terms of impact strength and tolerance of shape and size. The possibility of choosing different parameters in terms of thickness and size enables selection of the best product for the planned use.

Ship plates - standard assortment

ArcelorMittal Distribution’s products in the form of ship and offshore plates meet Polish and foreign standards, and are also adapted to the regulations of ship classification societies and are characterised by a minimum ductility of 235 to 355MPa. High strength and quality standards have been confirmed by certificates issued by the classification societies, which means that the products can be used to build ships and various buoyant structures.

Application of heavy plates

S235JR – acc. to PN-EN 10025 unalloyed general purpose constructional steel, used for:

a) welded, load-bearing and dynamically structures:

- power traction posts

- masts

- chimney stacks

- machine and equipment components:

      - sub-crane beams

      - load-bearing components in lifting equipment structures

Weldable steel is characterised by very good machinability.

 

S355JR – acc. to PN-EN 10025 low-alloy steel of increased strength, used to build structures exposed to higher loads and impact resistance at lower temperatures, used for:

- bridges

- railway cars

- masts

- sub-crane beams

- load-bearing components in lifting equipment structures

S355JR steel is used wherever it is economically justified. It is characterised by greater strength than constructional steel of higher quality and greater corrosion resistance. Good weldable steel. It is suitable for machining.

 

16Mo3 – acc. to PN-EN 10028 alloy steel, boiler steel for use at elevated temperatures. The 16mo3 grade is used in the production of vessels exposed to elevated temperatures and pressure. 

 

P265GH, P355GHacc. to PN-EN 10028 unalloyed steels intended for operation at elevated temperatures for pressure equipment. Used in the production of boilers and vessels exposed to elevated temperatures and pressure.


S420N, S460N – acc. to EN 10025 special constructional alloy steel, normalized rolled. It is fine-grained steel, used for welding components designed to withstand high loads. Typical applications include:

- bridges

- components of mining machines

- pylons

- other architectonic structures

 

The effect of alloying elements on the properties of steel

Alloy steels used in ArcelorMittal Poland for the production of plates have additives that affect the properties of the finished product. The most popular steel alloy components include, among others: phosphorus, sulphur, cobalt, molybdenum, vanadium, tungsten, aluminium, nickel, manganese and silicon. Additives can significantly reduce or increase the properties of steel, which ultimately determines the scope of its use.
